Philippines Monsoon

In the weeks immediately following the tsunami in Samoa and typhoons in the Philippines, over 400 Aquaboxes from Australia and the UK were sent to the disaster areas in Samoa (District 9920) and Philippines (Districts 3810,3820 and 3780).  The Aquaboxes, valued in excess of AUD $210,000 are capable of producing over 3.5 million litres of drinkable water.

On 16 October 2009 Rotary Past District Governor Geoff McLennan AOM wrote:  “On behalf of District Governor Chit Lijauco from District 3820, and the final recipients of the Aqua Boxes, I wish to place on record our appreciation for your assistance in this time of great need. We are led to believe the water from Lake Laguna de Bay will not recede for around 4-5 months. This will cause extreme hardships for the thousands of displaced people and the need for potable water will remain crucial. These horrific conditions promote concern of major health outbreaks due to water borne diseases and the resultant decay following the slow decline in flood water levels. Our gratitude should be transmitted to those contributors who made this donation of Aqua Boxes possible.”
