Aquaboxes Distributed in Cambodia

During December 2011 members of the Rotary Club of Eltham (Australia) and Rotary Club of Phnom Phen assisted with the distribution to villagers and to demonstrate the use of the equipment. 108 Aquaboxes were distributed to two areas outside Phnom Penh. Over a thousand people will use the Aquabox for clean water over the next 3-6 months until the water supplies contaminated by the floods are clean again.   Aquaboxes were distributed in Baray, Kampong Thom district, north of Phnom Penh. There are a number of schools and pagodas in the district which were given the larger Aquabox 30s. Smaller kits were distributed to local families. Some 90 villagers attended a very successful demonstration of how to use the boxes. One very poor village about 70 kms south west of Phnom was not flooded but relied on water from a small dirty pond.  Cholera had broken out and one baby had died and a number of the villagers had various other illnesses from drinking contaminated water. Villagers were given a large Aquabox and shown how to use it. The kit will produce enough clean water for the entire village, over 100 people, for the next 7-8 months.
